A massive explosion was reported in the Chinese port city of Tianjin, according to the BBC.
The explosion occurred around 11:30 p.m. local time in an industrial area of the city, according to the South China Morning Post. The blast was reportedly caused by explosives at a container terminal.
Several fire brigades were working to extinguish fire from the explosion, the state CCTV news channel reporter. Shockwaves could be felt miles away from the blast, sending people fleeing from their homes.
A hospital in the city was treating more than 50 people, with new patients streaming in, China Xinhua News reported.
